Human Solutions is deeply grateful to The Rite Aid Foundation for the generous $10,000 grant to support Human Solutions' Emergency Shelter Service for Homeless Families.  This grant will be used to provide emergency shelter for homeless families, as well as to provide the services and resources families need to quickly move into safe permanent housing.

Human Solutions received a very generous $50,000 grant from the Spirit Mountain Community Fund to support our Self-sufficiency Through Enhanced Service Delivery project, which will be achieved by constructing a Multi Service Center in the heart of Rockwood and East Multnomah County.

Multiple agencies, including Human Solutions, will provide health and social services out of the Multi Service Center. Partners and service providers include Loaves & Fishes, The Wallace Medical Concern, El Programa Hispano, Metropolitan Family Services, LifeWorks NW and Mt. Hood Head Start. Human Solutions anticipates
that more than 60,000 visits and or calls will be made to the Multi Service Center each year.

The development of the Multi Service Center will be an important first step in assisting very low-income people living in Rockwood and the surrounding neighborhoods to obtain basic needs services, medical care, addiction and behavioral treatment services, as well as homelessness prevention services, employment training, and information on how to live healthier lifestyles. Our goal
is to develop and nurture productive citizens in the community.

The Multi Service Center will have an impact far beyond the services provided within its walls. The Multi Service Center will foster neighborhood pride and enrich an area impacted by growing levels of poverty. Since the mid -1980s, there have been many planning processes to encourage the revitalization of the area. However, none of these attempts has progressed beyond the planning stage---until now!

The Multi Service Center will occupy the first floor of a new three story structure to be called The Rockwood Building. The second and third floors will contain 47 units of affordable housing, including 15 units for homeless families. We believe that
this new facility will create community pride, facilitate neighborhood revitalization, and promote and celebrate the cultural diversity of the Rockwood community. Stay tuned for news on the groundbreaking later this summer!

The $50,000 grant from the Spirit Mountain Community Fund helped top off an intensive capital campaign. We are very proud to partner with the Spirit Mountain Community Fund to make the Multi Service Center a reality!

Spirit Mountain Community Fund is the philanthropic arm of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon. “Since 1997 when the Fund began, our Tribe and its members have gratefully shared over $51 million with Oregonians. This project is one that we’re particularly proud of. At a time when
the need for social supports is at its highest, it’s an honor and privilege to invest
in this opportunity to reach out to an important part of the community in a meaningful way,” said Director Shelley Hanson. For more information about the Fund or the Tribe, please visit their website at: www.thecommunityfund.com.

Thank You PGE Foundation!

The PGE Foundation awarded Human Solutions an extremely generous $15,000 grant to provide housing placement services for homeless families. PGE Foundation funds will support a year-round Housing Placement Coordinator and help at least 65 homeless families staying in our Daybreak Shelter and Homeless Family Warming Center quickly find and move into safe, stable permanent housing.

Having this increased capacity to help move homeless families out of the shelter system without delay has two primary benefits:

1) Human Solutions is able to serve more homeless families if shelter space opens up as families move into housing.
2) Homeless families, and especially their children, benefit in many ways from faster transition into the stability of permanent housing.

The less time children spend in a shelter, the less negative impact there is on their performance at school, on their physical and emotional health, and their sense of confidence—all harmful ways that being homeless can impact young people. We greatly appreciate the support of the PGE Foundation and applaud their commitment to improving the quality of life for Oregonians.

Thank You to BNSF Foundation!

Human Solutions is deeply grateful to the BNSF Foundation for the generous $2,500 grant to support our Daybreak Shelter for Homeless Families. This grant will be used to provide emergency shelter for homeless families, as well as to provide the resources families need to be able to move into permanent housing in the Portland area.
