Our Mission
Human Solutions’ mission is to help homeless and low-income families and individuals gain self-sufficiency by providing affordable housing, family support services, job readiness training and economic development opportunities.

Our History
For over 20 years, Human Solutions’ comprehensive array of social services, employment skills training and anti-poverty programs have provided stability for low-income and homeless families. Human Solutions has also developed and owns 539 units of affordable housing for low-income families in Multnomah County.

Our Impact
Here is a bit about Human Solutions’ impact last year:

367 people received employment training;
378 families received rent assistance to prevent eviction and homelessness
45,540 Callers or Walk-ins were given information and referrals;
8,569 households comprised of 26,699 people received energy assistance;
382 families went from homelessness into housing as a result of our services;
189 people attended anti-poverty classes and domestic violence support groups;
2,168 adults and children were housed in our 539 units of affordable housing;
186 families received shelter and support at our Daybreak homeless shelter;
300+ families were served in our Holiday Store.

Human Solutions is also the largest non-profit developer of affordable housing in Mid and East Multnomah County, Oregon, with 14 complexes containing of 539 units of housing.

Our service area covers 245 square miles of Mid and East Multnomah County, and includes neighborhoods with the highest level of poverty in the Metropolitan Portland Area. Each year, Human Solutions touches the lives of more than 100,000 people.

To fully represent the diversity of those we serve, the staff of Human Solutions collectively speaks11 languages, and 33 percent of our Board of Directors is comprised of low-income members from the community we serve.

Human Solution is a certified Community Based Development Organization (CBDO) and Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) organization. Human Solutions is the recipient of many prestigious awards including the Community Development Network People’s Program Award, the Oregon Housing and Community Services Excellence in Housing Award, and the Enterprise Green Communities Award, the 2007 Bank of America Neighborhood Builders Award, and the 2007 Spirit of Portland Award for Non Profit Organizations.

Only 13.4% of our overall expenses are used for administrative and fundraising costs.
