Daybreak Shelter | Permanent and Transitional Housing

Housing First is a national best practice model which embodies the philosophy that homeless families are better served the fewer times they have to move. This is especially true for children, who risk losing critical academic progress every time they have to change schools. Thus, Human Solutions assists homeless families with moving quickly into permanent housing, with at least several months of rent subsidy and intensive services from a Family Advocate who helps each family achieve their individualized goals. Families receive intensive services to overcome their homelessness and achieve economic stability. At the end of the program, they are able to pay for their apartments without any rent subsidy. They simply stay where they have been living and pay the rent themselves. The advantage to this is that the children can remain in local schools, the family can establish neighborhood ties and supports, employment is not disrupted, and the family avoids the problems of having to move again.
